We Are At War
If you’ve been paying attention at all, you are well aware of that fact. You may also be aware that it appears that we are losing. Perhaps we’ve forgotten how to fight as the Army of The Lord.
Soldier of The Cross is the result of years of historical research and Biblical study. It started as a series of email devotionals back in 2000. Now, it’s one of the most listened to series in Jesus’ Outsider history.
Here’s what Paul wrote (Eph 6:10-18):
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.
The readers would have had the immediate image of the legions of Rome and their military kit. When he wrote it, the Romans were the best trained and best equipped army in the world. The lesson would have been immediate and easily understood. We’ve lost a lot of understanding in the centuries since then. We need it back.
It’s Time To Rethink Our Approach
Our rugged individualist culture has influenced the way that we view and practice spiritual warfare. If we are to start seeing real victory, we need to rethink our armor and how we fight.
It’s time to take a look at the teachings of Scripture as they would have been understood at the time they were written. Using the Roman Legions as a launching pad, we teach:
This is built as a series but many of the segments will work as a stand alone teaching.
I do not fear an army of lions, if they are led by a lamb.
I do fear an army of sheep, if they are led by a lion.
- Alexander the Great
We are soldiers of the Lion of Judah! What have we to fear?
We are divided, undisciplined, and unruly. We bear little resemblance to the great army that we are called to be.
A disorderly mob is no more an army than a heap of building materials is a house.
Victory is truly possible but it’s time to go back to boot camp and rebuild the mighty army of the Lord of Hosts!
The war is only going to get more intense as time goes on. This is one of the most important teachings we have for the Church today! For more, contact us on the Connect Page.
