There’s No Doubt We’re in a Sex Obsessed Culture

Unfortunately, most of the church isn’t talking about it. The truth that we don’t want to face is that pornography use and addiction rates are the same in the church as they are in the world. It’s not just men either. Consider these numbers:

  • 33% of youth pastors admit to pornography addiction or to struggling with pornography
  • 40-45% of Christian men admit to being addicted to pornography
  • 70% admit to struggling with porn
  • 25% of all internet downloads are porn related
  • Fifty Shades of Grey has sold over 125 million copies worldwide in 2014 with an estimated reach of nearly double that amount with libraries and book sharing. Millions of Christian women have been exposed to the BDSM lifestyle in its pages.
  • Surveys range from 25-40% of women admitting a pornographic addiction.

Sex, Porn, & Freedom Conferences and Seminars are intended to kickstart the dialog within the Body of Christ so that real freedom can be found. We don’t have the luxury of assuming the problem only exists in the world. We must face the truth. As long as we deny or ignore the real problem, we cannot solve it.

We shatter misconceptions about porn and sex addiction including:

  • It’s just a men’s issue, women don’t have a problem
  • Christians don’t do this
  • What pornography really is (it’s more than you think)
  • It’s just a matter of stopping
  • Porn is produced by big companies

We use a combination of science, statistics, and personal testimony to show how widespread this issue really is and how freedom can be found through the power of the Gospel.

How We Help Deal With Our New Culture

When we come into your ministry or congregation, we are direct but with an eye towards healing. Everything we do, no matter the topic, is to bring people closer to freedom in Christ.

Sex, Porn, and Freedom was the first conference we put on after expanding the vision. This lead to being brought in to share on this topic (along with mental illness/PTSD) at the Audiofeed Music Festival. In each case, we presented the reality of the problem not only from a morality perspective but as a real danger and addiction. We have the experience, the science, and the reality of how Christ can bring healing to the porn and sex addict. Of course, it all begins with Jesus and His mercy.

Bringing Sex, Porn, and Freedom to Your Ministry

We have broken the topic down into bite-sized chunks. While we can easily do a full day similar to the one we did in East Peoria, we have designed the teaching so that it can be done in modules. We want to be able to tailor the experience to be specific to the needs of the various parts of the Body of Christ. We can cover:

  • How Porn Culture Affects the Body of Christ & The Depth of The Problem
  • Signs and Symptoms of Porn and Sex Addiction
  • Ministering in Our New Sex Addicted Culture
  • BDSM and Other Fetishes (Think Fifty Shades of Grey, etc)
  • Finding Lasting Freedom Through Christ’s Healing Power
  • The Role of Christ-Centered Counseling in Recovery

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says:

“Awake, you who sleep,

Arise from the dead,

And Christ will give you light.”

Ephesians 5:8-14, Emphasis Added

We expose the deeds of darkness not to bring condemnation but rather to allow the light of the Gospel to bring freedom and healing to those trapped in its embrace.
